Mini-DV

Mini-DV copying

We re-tension your tapes before we record. We run the tape through a Panasonic DV1000 deck and then to our Adobe Premiere CS5 software. We use the Adobe CS5 software to edit your tape, to remove bad spots such as drop outs or black/blank space. We keep the copy as close to the original as possible. If there are edits you want done such as removing scenes, fixing color or adding captions, we can easily do them. When you fill out the Mini DV Project Pricing Form, make sure you indicate changes you want on it in the Special Instructions area. The Minidv Project Pricing Form has many options to review and check off for needs. Make sure to read it thoroughly, and remember, you can always email us with questions.

Do you want to add captions to the video?  Do you want to cut out scenes in the video?  Are you unsure of the content of the films or tapes and may need to rearrange the order of them?  For all these issues we can help you out - After the material is scanned into a video format, we can take that video and add a running counter on the video.  This counter will show on the screen in the bottom left.  We will put the video with the running counter, unlisted on our YouTube channel so you can review and send us any changes you want done before we finish the project.  This gives you a chance to review and watch with the counter running, and when you see a change (adding a caption, cutting a scene, switching reels around)  you can reference the running counter to give the exact time in the video to make a change and email us those changes.  There are many times that customers do not know what is on the video as they have no access to a device to play back the original film or tape.
Having the capability to review the video before the finished product is done is a nice option - currently we are charging $3 per video to post the video with the counter on YouTube.

To finish the project, we then record your video to DVD, adding a title menu and adding chapter breaks within the playback whenever the scenes change. We use the DVD format DVD-R which is the most widely used format in DVD players. You will receive your DVD in a slim DVD case that has a printed color cover.  There are also numerous other storage options to save your newly recorded videos. We can compress your final project to fit on options like flash drives, Flickr or the Cloud. The easier access to the recording for you, the easier it will be for you to play on devices that can play videos. Keep in mind that compression sometimes causes a degradation in quality.

Sort your tapes in chronological order. We normally put 2 hours of tape on on DVD. We can record up to 3.5 hours on a Double Layer DVD if necessary. Be sure to fill out the Mini DV Project Pricing Form, this is very important. Rubber band or string them together. Put a sticky note on the pile indicating year, title, any special name. Print out our Mini DV Project Pricing Form located on our Ordering page. Fill out the form and include it with your tapes.

If you are dropping off your tapes at our office, see instructions on the order form you are filling out for your project on how/where to drop off.  If not, place tapes along with your order form in a strong box, packed to hold your tapes secure. Your local Post Office has boxes that can be purchased to hold your tapes for shipment. Make sure to send us an email (rdmdigital@gmail.com) stating that you are sending the tapes. Send your box to the following address:
